Bad effects of gambling & why its a sin
The bible did not condemn gambling directly but it said alot of things that makes gambling a sin, am not conversant with those bible verses but i know some verses and what it says, some of those verses are
Proverbs 13:11
Wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but whoever gathers little by little will increase it.
Hebrews 13:5
Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Ecclesiastes 5:10
He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income; this also is vanity.
1 Timothy 6:9
But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.
Ephesians 4:28
Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need.
Proverbs 28:22
A stingy man hastens after wealth and does not know that poverty will come upon him.
I wouldn't get married to one, wether part time or full time, and I'm sure most people wont either.
Bad influence:
It expose you to bad and irresponsible people who have no future prospects other than gambling untill they suddenly become millionaires, they'll keep advising you not to quit gambling that Tommorow will be your turn and you keep going deeper until you become addicted
Its hard to raise a family with gambling:
Most people who are gamblers have dysfunctional families, instability, poor standard of living, little or no financial progress etc, ladies never get married to a gambler.
Addiction:
this is somehow similar to drug addiction, in the sense that whenever its time to gamble and you don't have the resources to gamble, you'd become restless, you start visualizing the best outcome if you take a risk and gamble, then you'd borrow or sell whatever you have just to gamble, thier clothes, mobile phone, cars, heck they can even sell thier wife. when you loose you start reflecting that you've been foolish all the while and if you win you will use it to gamble again and the bookies will collect it back.
its a waste of productive time:
The dedication gamblers put into what they do is worthy of applause, they scrutinize check and double check and put all time and effort in it only to loose woefully like they didn't put any effort into it, they end up in disbelief only to bounce back afterwards and resume thier gambling.
Society frowns at it:
gambling is not a job, only those who own the bookies make the profit, and they make it off you the gamblers, like the name implies its gambling, you invest in it but you're not certain if you will have returns or not, its shady, i personally see full time gamblers as unserious. Its a shady business so invest in something you can get sure profits from.
It instills the spirit of greed in people: greed is the mechanism the bookies employ to make sure gamblers keep loosing and only few get away with thier money the rest loose because of greed, those who play sports betting can relate to this, they introduced the odds system, the easy outcomes has little odds which brings little returns, but since the greed is there you will choose more of it to accumulate odds or choose a dangerous outcome with little chance of winning and play in faith, and 90% loose because of such cunning machinations.
It draws you away from God:
the only thing on your mind will be the thoughts of how awesome your life will be when you win because you have faith that one day you'll hit it big so you keep playing until you hit bankruptcy, believe me if you put all that faith in God he will reach out, his ways are surer than bet9ja.
It makes people to sink into debt or go bankrupt:
If you have a business no matter how its progressing don't go into gambling because that would be the death of your business, imagine you keep taking from something without replacement everytime, eventually it dries up because its a sure thing the ratio of loss is higher than gains in every instance.
It leads to depression and emotional anxiety:
this is common among those who is still awaiting the outcome of thier bet and those who keep loosing untill they felt like they're the mayors of looserville, then you hear the later saying the bookies are using juju and the former praying God make my ticket nor cut.
My advice to gamblers and intending gamblers:
Its for the rich and emotionally strong people:
Am not judging, but dont go into gambling if you're clingy and emotional, its for those who can afford to loose, you see all the people in casinos gambling? Gambling is a fun thing to them, They can afford to loose because they're already rich, they stake what they can afford to loose without batting an eyelid, but you that intend to become rich from it ends up staking what you should have saved and when you loose you become suicidal and emotional.
Don't make it your profession:
do something with your life that is guaranteed to bring returns, dont base your life on heresay of people who won and think that is also your fate, we have different stories to tell and no two people will tell exact stories in life.
Don't go into gambling at all:
to avoid addiction, if you're in, its hard to get out, especially students its dangerous because one day you might use your school fees without considering how you got it and how important it is.

It seems Alabi chop you dry. Tell Buhari to change the economy.

Depositing your money in the bank is not gambling.
Gambling is when you stake your money or something of value to play a game, which in the end, you may lose (lose all the money) or win.
But when you deposit your money in the bank, you are not losing the money if interest is not added to it.
is that how your dictionary defines gambling?

Gambling is a great sin in islam
Allah says : ' O you who have believed, indeed, intoxicants, gambling, [sacrificing on] stone alters [to other than Allah], and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may be successful.” [Quran 5:90]
Gambling is mentioned in the Quran, alongside drinking alcohol as an abomination, a sin, and a grave harm to mankind. It was made clear that prosperity does not come through gambling. Gambling, among many other things, causes families to break, societies to suffer, and the economy to deteriorate, damaging the ethical foundation of any decent society.

Everything must not be in the bible before you know if its a sin or not......Simple morality counts

Placing friendly bets on sports games escalated into major gambling schemes and scandals in recent decades.

Gambling And Its Effects Microeconomics

Placing friendly bets on sports games escalated into major gambling schemes and scandals in recent decades. Some of the schemes drawn up by bookies, players and even team executives turned heads and shocks the sports world with each scandal revealed. Gambling effects sports in a variety of ways from deterring fan support to causing major disruption from blown championship games.

Fans often believe that NFL referees are paid to miss calls, penalties and make poor calls on purpose to throw the game. Fans have been right on several occasions. NFL gambling schemes are known to be relatively frequent.

The pressure put on players to either make a play or blow a play based upon bets often obstructs their playing ability. The stress and worrying about what the team will think, how the media will react and what fans will think takes a toll on a player.

Gambling And Its Effects

While most players truly love the game of football, there are those players that are more about the dollar signs than the game itself.

Points shaving scandals are prevalent in college basketball. The first scandal to surface was in 1951 at The City College of New York. These schemes come about when players are contacted by gamblers and/or bookies to make sure a team is incapable of covering a specific points spread. It is easier for these schemes to take place in college systems. College players are typically struggling for financial support, and are easily tempted with cash or gifts for their participation in the scheme.

One of the most mind-blowing points shaving schemes was at Boston College in 1978 involving Henry Hill, Rick Kuhn, Rocco Perla and Tony Perla. Henry Hill was known for his ties to the movie 'Goodfellas'. Rick Kuhn played for Boston College and was easily bribed by the Perla brothers to go about working their scheme in such a way that it did not appear suspicious.

Gambling and its effects microeconomics

Horse racing is another area where gambling schemes are prevalent. Jockeys are often approached to throw off the horse's gait or style of running to change the outcome of the race. A horse that is expected to be a favorite could easily lose a race if a horse is unable to gallop at top speed, which leads to huge losses for those that place hefty bets on a specific horse.

Horse track betting schemes still go on today, but are handled in a much different way. Bookies are kept as a secret and the circle of those that are permitted to be involved is quite small. It is not often that a new person is accepted because they are immediately thought to be an informant by seasoned track gamblers.

Student athletes are the biggest targets for points shaving schemes and sports gambling troubles. Students do not have much money and are easily bribed. One Arizona State University student, Stevin Smith was paid $80,000 in 1994 to throw four games.

This gambling ring used casinos in Las Vegas to place their bets. The casinos caught on to their scheme and blew the whistle promptly. Three of those involved were sentenced to actual jail time.

Gambling affects college students in a major way. Roughly 39-percent of female students have claimed that they have gambled in some capacity recently.

Gambling

When students get involved in gambling schemes, it can leave them with a criminal paper trail that can prevent their professional sports career. It can also have an impact on their life in general as some charges may be of felony status. Felony convictions affect a person's ability to rent or buy a home, obtain a loan, live in certain communities or work in some industries. Nearly every aspect of a person's live is impacted.

Sports gambling does affect society. Fully understanding the absolute economic effects is difficult because sports gambling is illegal in the United States. When middle-class persons get involved in these schemes, they can literally lose every possession they have. Gambling can become an addiction or obsession that can leave a family completely deserted, sometimes even homeless.

Sports gambling also affects society's overall impression of a game. This is especially the case when they see missed calls, penalties or intentional injuries being inflicted on others. They see amazing athletes blowing a game intentionally. It does not matter the level, either college or professional, that a player is involved with, these schemes and gambling scandals happen every season. Some are just good enough to have not been caught yet.
