Stockbridge subsidiary Hollywood Park Land Company has been building a new mixed-use development on the grounds of the shuttered Hollywood Park horse track since June 2014. That property is being built as a 365-day destination retail and entertainment complex, complete with residential, office, and the Hollywood Park Casino, already in operation.

Hollywood Park Casino is a casino and sports bar in Inglewood, California. Originally part of the Hollywood Park Racetrack, the casino moved to a new building in 2016 after the closure and demolition of the racetrack in 2013.

  • 1History

History[edit]

The original casino owners were the Hollywood Park Operating Co., which also owned the race track. Afterwards the casino went through a series of owners including Churchill Downs. In 1994, a casino called the Hollywood Park Casino, with a pokercard room, was added to the Hollywood Park Racetrack complex.[1] The racetrack was sold and shut down in December 2013 though the casino operations continued while the current casino building opened in October 2016.[1][2] The casino is part of the Hollywood park site which is currently undergoing major redevelopment that will include multiple housing, business parks, luxury hotels, a movie theatre, an open-air shopping center and the new SoFi Stadium, which will be home to the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers of the National Football League. It is the first building of the complex that has been constructed and opened.

Stockbridge Capital Group[edit]

The current owners are Stockbridge Capital Group, a San Francisco-based land developer which purchased the casino and then the racetrack in 2005 for nearly $260 million. Stockbridge, in addition to owning the casino, is also the land developer for the former racetrack site and a joint partner in the under construction NFL stadium. It is planned that the new casino, entertainment complex and the upcoming NFL stadium will improve the finances of the casino, which had been on a downturn since the Los Angeles Kings and Los Angeles Lakers left The Forum in May 1999.

New Casino Building[edit]

The Hollywood Park Casino contains 125 tables for both Poker and California Games including chandelier lighting and big-screen HD televisions on the walls. There was even a new sports bar called Century Bar & Grill. There are separate rooms for high-stakes players and celebrity poker tournaments. It also features high scale sit-down restaurant and sports bar. Like its predecessor, only card games are allowed in the casino.[3]

Off-Track Betting[edit]

Located in the casino is the Hollywood Park OTB which continues from the former track. It features races from all over North America and Australia on big screens.

There is an upheaval going on at Hollywood Park Casino near Los Angeles International Airport. New managers/owners have fired much of the experienced staff, they're bringing in new, younger workers and are trying to change the image of the casino to appeal to younger, wealthier players. I wrote about it on my website, and there have been others who have commented about the changes. http://forum.alanbestbuys.com/showthread.php?1155-New-owners-managers-take-over-at-Hollywood-Park-Casino
Hollywood Park is just not in a geographic area to compete with Hustler, Commerece. While it is close to the upper income West Side of Los Angeles Commerce still is the big gun in town and Commerce remains the biggest poker casino in the world.

Hollywood Park is one of the few casinos that I've been scared to attend. More so than Poker Palace, maybe slightly less than Silver Saddle Saloon. It kind of had a zombie apocalypse feel to it when I was at Hollywood Park - raised guard towers in the parking lot, and a mob of vagrants roaming the asphalt in search of spare change.
I thought that Bicycle Club was much more impressive than Hustler, but I see you didn't even mention them above - has the quality of that property been reduced?

My favorite casino in town is Bicycle -- The Bike. Very safe, very well run, very clean, and great free food for $100 and up no limit buy in games.
Hustler is probably the most elegant casino in So Cal, but I stopped going there when their nightly tournaments went south. I used to play in their Wednesday and Thursday night tournaments. Well run, also great food. But a bit 'out of the way' for those of us on the west side.
I don't like Commerce because its dirty. Honest to God, the restrooms are a mess. I refuse to eat there. The valets are always trying to hustle you for a car wash.

Hollywood Park itself, the racetrack, is widely rumored to be in it's final year. The fall 2013 meeting may be the last one. Speculation as to what will replace it after it's closing. Even more guesswork as to where it's racing dates will be run. Talk of expanding and adding a turf course to either Los Alamitos or Fairplex, or of giveing the dates to either Santa Anita or Del Mar. Just how Hollyparks closing will affect the casino is ??

Very sad the racetrack is closing. A shame I'll never have gotten a chance to go out there and see the track and the great Zenyatta's stall.

No queston that it is closing and I think at the end of this year.
Funny... when I was in college in the early 1970s the #1 sport for the number of spectators was horse racing! Now. its NASCAR which is even greater than Baseball, Football, Basketball.

I'd be surprised if they closed the casino. Licenses are not that easy to come by, and they seem to have a steady customer base, since they are so close to the airport.

I hope they give racing dates to Del Mar. It is a shame that track is only used once during the year, it is a great place to watch the ponies!

They have been saying Pollywood would be closing for about 5 years now. I dont think it will close. What are they going to put there? Its between the airport and the ghetto

Del Mar is real nice. But there's something to be said about having 3 different tracks on rotation.
